Polytechnic Students, 21 Others Nabbed For Armed Robbery, Kidnapping
They were sent to school to study and horn their skills, but they delved into crime.
Just as they were about to round off studies, luck ran out on them and they were caught.
The two final year students of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja were arrested by the State Police for armed robbery.
The students whose names are Jacob Ufedo a Higher National Diploma (HND) Student from the Department of Business Administration and Abubakar Nuhu Sadiq, a National Diploma (OND) student studying Accountancy in the Institution, were arrested for illegal possession of fire arms on the very day they concluded their examinations.
The two suspects, while confessing to the crime revealed that they had finished their exams on the 7th of November but were awaiting the completion of their projects when they were apprehended by the police.
This is just as 21 others were arrested from their hide outs across the state for their involvement in kidnappings, armed robberies, cultism and other crime related activities.
The two suspects, while regretting their action, narrated how they were caught by the Kogi State Police Command.
"Our friend Salihu gave us the gun, so while we were travelling to Anyigba, we got to the police check point and they caught us."
Parading the other suspects in Lokoja, the Kogi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya said that in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris to the command to ensure safety of lives and property of the citizenry, the command has adopted a proactive strategy to stamp out activities of the hoodlums from the state.
He said five suspects who were armed with two locally made guns attacked a police station and a vigilante office in Adankolo, a suburb of Lokoja.
Aya added that the suspects carted away valuable properties of the police.
The Police spokesperson further stated that the hoodlums claimed they were protesting the death of two of their members who drowned in the river Niger while trying to escape arrest from the officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who stormed their bunk in search of illicit drugs.
Speaking further, Aya said with the prompt intervention of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (FSAR) led by Dsp Danjuma Bukar, they promptly arrested Ukwumodu Agono and Abu Atobo who were terrorizing the people of Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area and its environs.
The Police PPRO added that luck ran out of two suspects identified as Ebeh Musa and Ameh James from Idah who were arrested while snatching at gun point, a Daylong motorbike from one Achile Sumaila at Agbagigbo in Ofu LGA of the state.
Items recovered from the hoodlums include 2 Ak 47 rifles, 60 rounds of Ak 47 amunitions, 1 single barrel gun; one action barrel rifle, one locally made pistol, weeds suspected to be indian hemps, 10 laptops and six mobile phones.
