Police, Residents Disagree Over Arrest Of Madman Who Hacked Neighbour To Death
The cruel act of a street lunatic, who hacked down a man, has continued to generate nagging questions in Olomu town in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The questions of how he will be arrested, what cell will he be kept if arrested and which court will he be tried have dominated a topical discourse since the news jolted the community like a volcano over the weekend.
Members of the community are of the opinions that the matter should just be seen as an act of God than waiting endlessly for the outcome of police investigation because the action was taken out of lunatic display.
"Who will arrest a madman, which cell will they put him if arrested and which court will he even be prosecuted?
"This are questions one must answer before police's word is taken on the matter," said Babafemi Julius.
Corroborating this position, Abayomi Ademakaiye, posited that arresting the killer remains a tall dream and ultimate search for the police.
"If you look at the circumstances that surrounded the killing, you will agree with me that police can only make their usual promise, but nothing would come out of it.
"The killing took place in the night when nobody was on ground to rescue the victim. Even if it happened during the day, it would still have taken the grace of God for anyone to make an attempt because such a ravaging madman could attack as many people that attempt to come near him.
"The only way he can be punished for his offence is for him to be shot at sight by the police. Does a lunatic know any difference between a police cell and where he is? It still doesn't make any difference whether he is arrested or prosecuted. He did what he did out of insanity."
The unidentified madman was said to have macheted his victim identified as Idowu Seewo to death and took to his heels after the incident.
According to a police source who claimed the matter was not immediately reported to the authority until the following day, the alleged killer is a street madman who is well known in the community.
"He was always with cutlass but had not been using it to harm anybody. What actually transpired between him and the deceased remained unknown until full investigation into the matter is carried out." He said.
While confirming the murder, the state police spokesman, Femi Joseph, said the suspected madman was still on the run, but added that the police were on his trail.
