Police have rescued a Division Police Officer and 5 other persons that were kidnapped in Niger State on Sunday.

The rescue was made by the Niger Police Command on Thursday.

Mr Austine Agbonlahor, who is the state's Commissioner of Police, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna that the officer, Amos Aliyu was rescued with 5 others in an operation.

Aliyu is the DPO in charge of Sarkin Pawa Police Division in Munya Local Government Area,  Niger.

"Yes the senior police officer, along with 5 others, were rescued and have since been reunited with there loved ones."

He said that the victims were rescued with the aid of useful information from some members of the public.

He did not however state whether the suspected kidnappers were arrested.

Security threats are on the increase in the state, but the Commissioner said the command was taking proactive security measures to deal with all of them.

"We have already deployed sufficient security personnel in identified areas prone to criminal activities.

"We are battle ready to confront any form of security threat to enable residents move on with there legitimate business," the police boss stated.

He, however, called for more cooperation from the public to enable the police rid the state of criminals.
