A police informant has paid the ultimate price for doing his job.

Gunmen suspected to be cult members killed 65-year-old Raphael Udofia, who used to reside at 81 Ikpa Road in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The deceased was said to have been brutally attacked before his head was cut off.

A family source said Udofia had spent over 18 years in prison for killing his father before returning to take up the vigilante job in the area.

Another police informant identified as Dan Mark was reportedly shot by the gunmen.

A local vigilante, Effiong Akpan, said, "Mark is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital after the attack.

"He used his hands to try to block the bullets, but the bullets shattered the hands.

"He immediately fell down and feigned death in the pool of his blood. The criminals left him, thinking he was dead.”

Akpan ruled out any case of armed robbery, adding that the hoodlums numbering about 15, attacked the two informants on Sunday.

“...they never stole any property or cash from the victims.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Odiko Ogbeche, said the case had yet to be transferred to the state police headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, for investigation.
