Police Dismiss Officials For Extorting From People With Gun
“They use weapons bought with taxpayers’ money to threaten, intimidate and extort the people” the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni has given as reason for dismissing two police officers.
But the Nigeria Police Force is out to punish such police officials that tarnish the image of the force, as two officials have been dismissed for extorting money from the public.
They raid people at different locations and falsely brand them as internet fraudsters Owoseni, said on Monday while announcing the dismissal of the officials.
“These policemen are tarnishing the image of the police by using weapons bought with taxpayers’ money to threaten, intimidate and extort the people,” Owoseni said.
Four other policemen were arrested.
Two of the suspects were arrested for alleged defilement while 2 others are being investigated for alleged misconduct.
The 4 of them are undergoing orderly room trials over the allegations, Owoseni said.
Two of the policemen were arrested at Ajao Estate where they were shooting sporadically, he said.
“We do not want to cover up any erring police officer.
“Therefore, members of the public, particularly victims, should turn up when they are invited to testify against such officers. That way, we will be able to sanitise the force,” Owoseni stressed.
In his report of police arrests, Owoseni said 24 robbery suspects, 19 suspected cultists and three kidnap suspects were also arrested in the last one month.
