Police Arrest Primary School Teacher For Sexual Abuse
Police in a district on the outskirts of Hanoi have arrested a primary school teacher accused of sexually abusing several nine-year-old pupils.
The 44-year-old teacher from An Thuong A Commune’s Primary School in Hoai Duc district was arrested after the pupils’ parents denounced his actions in a letter to police, the Tien Phong newspaper reported.
“According to the letter, the teacher gave sweets to several female pupils and touched them inappropriately,” the online newspaper Dan Tri reported, quoting Nguyen Chi Luong the chairman of the commune.
“The teacher has admitted his actions,” VTV state television reported.
The teacher allegedly abused his students both at the school and at his house when they came for tutoring, one of the parents told local media, adding that students were told to keep quiet to avoid bad marks.
Nguyen Thi Minh, the school’s headmistress, said they didn’t notice any strange behaviour from the teacher at school.
The accused teacher, who is married and has two sons, lives in the same community with the victims.
At least nine students have apparently been abused.
Police who are investigating the case suspect more pupils might have suffered abuse.
The case has sparked a public outcry in Vietnam, calling for severe punishment against the teacher.
