Police Allegedly Kills Ex-PDP Chairman Over N100 Bribe
A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in ward 4 Ahoada East local government area in Rivers State is dead.
Unwobudu Edima Sydah was allegedly shot dead by a police officer over N100 bribe.
The incident happened at a police check point in Obite Town on Wednesday.
Sydah, who was also a 2-term Chairman of the National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Ahoada Region was in his taxi when the incident happened.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the policeman had stopped Sydah and demanded to be 'settled' but the man refused to give him any money, stating that he had already given to some other officers when he passed the route earlier.
But this explanation did not go down well with the officer. He was said to have shot Sydah while trying to intimidate him to part with the bribe.
Unfortunately, the gunshot was fatal as it hit him in the right hand.
The police officer with his colleagues fled when they saw that the man had been killed.
They later came back some few minutes later to take Sydah's corpse.
His body has been deposited in the morgue.
