Turkey-based defender William Troost-Ekong will captain the Super Eagles against Poland on Friday night's World Cup warm-up tie in Wroclaw, it has been revealed.

Ogenyi Onazi who ordinarily should have stood in in the absence of John Obi Mikel will not start, hence Ekong has been accorded the chance to lead the Eagles.

This certainly will be a big moment for Troost-Ekong who was first capped by Nigeria in a 2017 AFCON qualifier against Chad in Kaduna in June 2015.

The central defender also featured at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil, where Nigeria finished third.

Leon Balogun led out the team in the absence of Mikel Obi and Onazi in a final World Cup qualifier in Algeria in November, but his better half in the defence has taken over.

The Poland vs Nigeria game is billed to kickoff for 8.45pm.
