(PHOTOS): Protests Rock Outcome Of APC Kwara Governorship Primaries
Supporters of the governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress APC in Kwara State Alhaji Shuibu Yaman Abdullahi from Kwara North, on Thursday protested the outcome of the just concluded governorship primaries in the state.
They described it as "injustice, cheating and manipulation of electoral processes to deny the masses and their might's particularly the foundation members of the party"
The protesters who walked from post office to the party secretariat in Ilorin carried placard with the inscription " APC National headquarter give us our mandate we reject fraud and imposition"
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had announced Alhaji Abdulrahaman AbdulRasaq as winner of the Kwara State Governorship Primaries.
In a statement signed by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Yekini Nabena, Alhaji AbdulRasaq polled 29,098 votes to defeat other aspirants who scored the following: Alhaji Yammah Abdullahi - 22,116, Alhaji Lukeman Mustapha - 14,233, Prof.Oba Abu - 23,298, Alhaji Hakeem Lawal - 18,758, Alhaji Mooshood Murtala - 9,51, Isaq Modibbo Kawu - 5,060, Alhaji Yakubu Gobar - 2,420, Tajudeen Makama Audu - 3,127.
While addressing newsmen, the Director General Yaman support group, Hon Bode Towoju said " some concerned foundation members of this party advocated zoning and consensus as a process that produce our party's flag bearer with little or no hitch, but was flagrantly discarded hence the present state of confussion, despair and possible treat of implosion that engulf our party in this state as a fall and of the just concluded primaries.
"The suggestion of the Zoning and consensus took cognizance of the fact that Kwara central and south have had 12 and 8 years respectively, and it is the turn of the Kwara North to produce the next Governor of the state in 2019 in the interest of fairness, equal, justice and togetherness."
“It was a rude shock that electoral officers would violate the guidelines of announcing election results publicly and to declare the winner of the contest in the state where the polls were held. Contrarily they proceeded to Abuja and an unpopular Aspirant was declared "winner" of the election.
" This act of gross misconduct, manipulation, falsification, harassment and misleading the members of the public about the reality of the political situation of Kwara State. It was claimed that we polled 22, 166 votes. This is outright falsehood and unacceptable." He said
