The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived in Turkey for the 9th Summit of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8).

He was received at Esenboga Int'l Airport, Ankara, by Nigeria's Ambassador to Turkey, the Governor of Ankara and other officials.

His arrival was announced by the Presidency on Twitter.

After their arrival, President Buhari, accompanied by his wife, Aisha and delegation of ministers, held bilateral discussions with officials of the Turkish government.

On concluding the bilateral talks on Thursday, the party moved to Istanbul for the meeting of the D-8," a spokesman for the President Mr Garba Shehu said.

Talks were centred on various fields including defence cooperation, security, educational and migration issues

On Tuesday Another spokesman for the President, Femi Adesina, said  Buhari was invited by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey to take part in the summit.

“The Nigerian leader will also visit the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey in Ankara where he will meet with the Speaker, Ismail Kahraman,’’ the statement by Mr Adesina read.

Adesina further stated that President Buhari would use the occasion of the D-8 Summit to bolster warm and growing ties across a broad range of areas of cooperation with leaders of the D8-member countries.

The Summit with the theme, ‘‘Expanding Opportunities through Cooperation’’, will among other things, focus on cooperation in the areas of agriculture, trade, transport, energy and increased private sector participation among member-countries.
