The day could have started normally for this mother and child but it surely didn’t end well for them.

They were crushed to death by an articulated truck alongside four others at the busy Oja Oba market in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses said several others were critically injured in the accident that occurred around 8am while others were waiting along the Oja Oba/Molete road to board commercial buses.

The driver of the truck was said to have lost control before ramming into the victims.

Most of the affected persons were operators of commercial tricycles (keke marwa) that converted part of the market road to their garage, as well as some of their passengers.

About four of the tricycles were mangled by the impact of the collision with one of them badly burnt by ensuing fire.

One of those killed was an engineer with the Ibadan Properties, Mr. Monsur Ajedayo, who was caught up in the disaster as he waited for a taxi beside the road.

His body and that of others who died in the accident were said to have been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue while the injured persons are receiving treatment at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
