PHOTOS: Messi Celebrates Birthday Ahead Nigeria Clash
Though they are facing a torrid time at the Russia 2018 World Cup, Argentina players took time out on Sunday to celebrate their captain, Lionel Messi who clocked 31 years on the day.
Argentina will crash out of the World Cup if they fail to beat Nigeria on Tuesday in St Petersburg but the players have not allowed the tension to deny them a chance to celebrate with Messi.
The Super Eagles will join Group D leaders Croatia in the next round if they defeat Argentina. A draw will be enough for Nigeria if Croatia avoid defeat against Iceland.
Messi, who has scored 64 goals in 126 appearances for Argentina since his senior debut in 2005, has struggled in Russia along with his teammates.
But the Barcelona superstar was full of smiles on Sunday as he was presented with a birthday cake and a portrait.
