PHOTOS: Ibadan Plank Market Razed Again
January 13, 2018 was not in any way a good day for shop owners at the popular Sango Plank Market, Ibadan.
They lost about 100 shops to fire which destroyed goods and equipment worth millions of naira in the process.
Thanks to the swift intervention of the men of the Oyo State Fire Service, the inferno would have spread across the entire market.
The Director, Oyo State Fire Service, Moshood Adewuyi, said his men were swift in moving to the scene immediately the distress call came.
"The fire almost gutted the surrounding houses, but for the intervention of the fire service which halted its spread.
“It is becoming a usual occurrence and I don’t know what we can do about it. Actually, when I got there, I learned the fire started from a shop.
“There was electricity supply when the fire started. So, one of the machines might have overrun, which possibly led to the fire outbreak. The traders deal with free burning materials that can quickly ignite and spread with ease"
Bounce News gathered that over 300 shops were lost to a similar fire incident at same location two years ago.
The inferno, according to an eye witness, started at about 2a.m.
