Obasanjo and Atiku were both a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, but the former president has since torn apart his membership card, dissociating himself from the party and forming a coalition movement.

Atiku is aiming to unseat incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari to become Nigeria president.
