The dies is cast and in few hours, Nigerians will know who will be President Muhammadu Buhari’s main opponent in the 2019 presidential election.

The PDP’s national convention kicked off around 9pm on Saturday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt with the National Chairman, Mr Uche Secondus declaring the event open.

He was followed by the Convention Committee chairman, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, who welcomed the delegates before the National Secretary of the party, Senator Umaru Ibrahim Tsauri gave a report of the party’s progress in the past year.

Several party top shots took turns to address the delegates as they got ready for the voting proper.

Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa had earlier told newsmen that late arrival of delegates delayed the take-off of the convention.

The delegates were made to pass through three gates of screening before getting into the main bowl where the election would take place.

To enter into the main bowl was made so difficult by the committee that many journalists were not allowed to enter in spite of their accreditation cards.

In spite of the challenges, the event took off and many of the delegates said that they were satisfied with the security arrangement at the convention venue, especially the weather which was clement.

A total of 12 aspirants are gunning for the party’s 2019 presidential ticket.
