The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has won the local government elections conducted across the 23 local government areas of the state.

Chairman of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Chukwunenye Uriri, who announced the results in Port Harcourt  on Sunday night, said candidates of the PDP won both the chairmanship and councillorship seat in the election in which no few 68 political parties participated.

Uriri stated that only two political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is the main opposition political party in the state and the Independent Democrats (ID) boycotted the election.

He explained that the exercise was free, fair and devoid of violence.

The state Governor, Nyesom Wike, will swear-in all the newly elected officials by 12.30 p.m on Monday at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt.

The APC boycotted the election, saying that it decided to obey court orders concerning the exercise that was conducted on Saturday.
