Reports suggest about 8,500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors, who are members of the I See You Group in the state, defected during a rally in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

They said they decided to move because they were not getting the dividends of democracy.

The organizer, Chizi Nyeomasila, said the rally was a forum for local government executives of the group to decamp.

He added that the group will also organise rallies in the various local government areas for members at ward levels, who are willing to join the APC.

Nyeomasila expressed confidence that at the end of the programme at the local government areas, a total of 108,000 of its members would have formally crossed over to the APC.

He said they had to leave PDP when they realised that APC had what he termed “a better programme for the state.”

“PDP is a failure in the state. We were there but have now seen that APC will serve the common good of the state better. Like Paul in the Bible, we now see clearly,” he added.

His words: “We are set to dislodge PDP in the state at all levels. It has started. Now it is two to one at the senatorial level. APC has two senators, while PDP has one. So you can see that APC is set for victory in 2019.”

Some leaders of APC at the event were Senator-elect, Rivers East senatorial district, Senator Andrew Uchendu; Dr. Seconte Davies, Executive Director Marine Operations, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Rivers State Chairman of APC, Dr. Davies Ikanya.
