The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed former president Olusegun Obasanjo for his love letter to Buhari.

Obasanjo in a blistering and excoriating 13-page statement said Buhari has performed below expectation and should not seek re-election in 2019.

Obasanjo said Buhari’s government have been infected with “lice of poor performance in government – poverty, insecurity, poor economic management, nepotism, gross dereliction of duty, condonation of misdeed – if not outright encouragement of it, lack of progress and hope for the future, lack of national cohesion and poor management of internal political dynamics and widening inequality.”

The PDP's National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, has described Obasanjo’s counsel to Buhari as courageous and patriotic.

“The fact is that Nigerians overrated President Buhari in 2015 but they have now seen that he never possessed the capacity and the required aptitude to effectively govern our great nation and pilot a healthy economy.

“This accounts for the reason former President Obasanjo, just like most Nigerians today, are concerned about the quality of presidential candidates to be presented by various parties for the 2019 election.

“The fact is that while the APC is already caught up with President Buhari, the PDP is open for a new engagement that will throw up the President, which our nation truly deserves at this crucial moment.”

The former President lamented that Buhari allowed clashes between herdsmen and farmers to go “sour” and messy, even as he noted that the President allowed some governors to endorse him for re-election barely 24 hours after 73 people killed by herdsmen in Benue State were given mass burial, an action he described as “a sad symptom of insensitivity and callousness.”
