PDP Chairmanship: Adeniran Denies Being Sponsored By Atiku
One of the aspirants for the chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tunde Adeniran, has refuted reports that his ambition is being sponsored by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and Ogun State lawmaker, Buruji Kashamu.
The former minister described the reports as a campaign of calumny and total falsehood by those afraid of his imminent victory.
The Director-General of Adeniran's campaign, Shehu Gabam, at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday said the sponsors of the allegation were those afraid of defeat at the December 9 convention, insisting that the integrity of Prof. Adeniran would not be tarnished by the rumour.
“Is it not interesting that after the allegation of Buruji sponsoring the campaign did not fly, they changed tactics and started mentioning Atiku. It wasn’t Prof. Adeniran that brought Buruji into the party in 2000; it was a state affair. It was the party in Ogun State that brought him in.
“Atiku is not even in the party (PDP) and I can say it without fear that neither Prof. Adeniran nor the campaign organization has met with Atiku. It is alarming that these same people that are raising this allegation are the ones holding nocturnal meetings with these people to beg for their endorsement,” he said.
On the relationship of Prof. Adeniran with former leaders- Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo, he noted that it was of respect and dignity.
“Relationship and political interest are different things. Prof. Adeniran’s relationship with the former leaders started before the formation of PDP. If these people are behind the campaign, we would acknowledge it publicly because we would never deny our friends,” he said.
