Party Chairman, 3 Others Die As PDP, APC Supporters Clash In C/River

Four people were killed when supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress clashed in Cross Rivers State.

Ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bendeghe Ekiem Community, Etung Local Goverment Area of Cross River State and three other party supporters are said to have died following exchange of bullets between supporters of the PDP and those of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Apart from those who lost their lives in the gun duel, several others are said to be receiving treatment as a result of bullet wounds sustained by both factions, at Ikom General Hospital.

The misfortune happened on Friday, after leaders of the community finished signing a peace accord with leaders of PDP and the APC to ensure violent free election.

According to a PDP stalwart and special assistant (SA) to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State on Cocoa Development, Oscar Ofuka (an indigene of the community) stated that problem broke out when leaders of thought in the APC and the PDP concluded signing a peace accord for peace to reign in the area because of skirmishes which often broke out as a result of political differences in the area.

Oscar said, ”dissatisfied with the development, members of the APC who were armed with guns and machetes opened fire on arm-less PDP supporters and villagers.

"Among the dead is Ayuk Ogar, PDP Ward Chairman of Bendeghe Ekiem.

“Right now, the people of Bendeghe Ekiem are living in fear and require urgent security attention to protect lives and properties.

The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, Police PPRO, Irene Igbo,is yet to confirm the incident.
