Team Nigeria Para Powerlifters on Tuesday night arrived Mexico ahead of the World Championship holding from November 28th to December 9, 2017.

About 1,200 athletes from 89 countries are expected to take part in the championship and Team Nigeria power-lifters are not intimidated.

The country’s representatives consists of seven female and four male lifters.

The male lifters include: Yakubu Adesokan 49kg (World Record Holder), Ezurike Roland 54kg (World Record Holder), Kehinde Paul 65kg (World Record Holder) and Nnamdi Innocent 72kg.

The female lifters are: Tijani Latifat 45kg, Ejike Lucy 61kg (World Record Holder), Ibrahim Olaitan 67kg, Nwosu Ndidi 73kg, Omolayo Bose 79kg, Obiji Loveline 86kg (World Record Holder) and Oluwafemiayo Folashade 86kg.


The officials are the Nigeria Para Powerlifting president, Sunlola Johnson and the secretary general, Abulugbe Dayo, the two coaches, Igbiti Patience (female) and Ibeh Luke (male), the two helpers, Ajala Omowumo (female) and Godwin Nwaezeam – helper/loader (male)and the team doctor, Ogunkunle Ekundayo.

The NPPF President gave an assurance that the athletes are fully prepared to rule the world again.

“We cannot afford to miss this competition because it is very vital for our participation for Tokyo 2020.

“We are Number One in the world and I know the athletes have put in more efforts to ensure that we rule the world again in Mexico,” he said

The IPC World Championships was earlier scheduled for commencement on Sept. 30 but was postponed following the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Mexico on Sept. 19, killing more than 155 people.
