Member representing Chikun local government constituency in the Kaduna state House of Assembly (KDHA) on the platform of the All Progresive Congress (APC) Mark Yari was caught with sensitive election materials.

The materials were for the  rescheduled local government election in the area

Yari's apprehension lead to pandemonium at the secretariat of the local government in Kujama.

Also apprehended for an offence yet to be confirmed was the Igabi Federal House of Representative member, Abubakar Mohammed Mamadi also of the APC.

The two members were thoroughly beaten and almost lynched before the intervention of the security operatives who rescued them.

Youths of the local government, who trooped out in their thousands, besieged the secretariat at Kujama to ensure that the election materials were protected.

Several election materials including results sheets were found in a Peugeot 406 allegedly belonging to the member representing the constituency.

Yari, who later spoke to journalists at the secretariat under the protection of security operatives said that he was innocent,  describing the allegation as the handiwork of the opposition.

He said that he was molested and money stolen from him by the mob.

However, Mamadi who was furious at the sight of journalists refused to talk. In his words "I won't say anything, is it by force to speak?" he said in anger.

Our correspondent who was at the secretariat to monitor the rescheduled election reported that heavily armed security operatives were immediately drafted to the troubled area to maintain law and order.

It took the intervention of the security operatives who used maximum force including tear gas and sporadic shooting of live bullets in the air before they were able to whisk the two lawmakers and about three staff of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) in their Hilux vehicle amidst heavily armed security men to an unknown destination.

Speaking on the matter, the local government chairman, Jonah Musa said some of their supporters ''caught a 406 Peugeot belonging to our member (Mark Yari) with result sheets, that is what brought about the pandemonium.''

The member representing Igabi federal constituency was also apprehended alongside with the members apparently planning to cause crisis in the area.

"We will resist any attempt to cause crisis in the area or rig the election. Tthe PDP is conveniently leading in the wards that election was conducted on May 12, so we are confident of winning the election.

"That is why the APC is doing all they can to upturn the election and we will not allow that to happen".

As at the time of filing this report, there is no official statement from SIECOM on the incident.
