Now that INEC has released names of candidates for the 2019 general elections, we can safely say campaigns will start in earnest.

Trust politicians not to waste time, especially the ones whose candidacy is not being challenged.

The governorship aspirant of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Oyo State, Mr Oyedele Hakeem Alao, is ready for the showdown.

His first move was to commend the leadership and members of his party, his teeming supporters and friends for their support.

But to get the votes from the masses, he knew he had to also appeal to aggrieved party members to rally round his candidature for the sake of the party’s victory.

"I am using this opportunity to appeal to all the aggrieved members of our party to forgo all the inadequacies of the past.

"We have the obligation of delivering the people of Oyo State from shackles of the poverty-driven APC and its remnants.

"It is beckon on us to build a virile and credible alternative structure where the true progressive ideology we stand for can effectively be exhibited," he said in a statement issued recently in Ibadan.

The Oyo State chapter of Alliance for Democracy had held parallel party primaries in September to choose its flag bearer.

The decision divided the party, but with the publication of names of governorship candidates by INEC, the question as to who the candidate is has been resolved.

So, Alao also appealed to everyone who has any issue with the national leadership of the party over the dissolution of the state executive in April and the appointment of the caretaker committee.

He asked them, in the interest of the party, to withdraw all court cases and let the issue be resolved amicably as a family.

Alao really wants to be the next governor of Oyo state.
