As it has been the case in previous trials, they came in their hundreds to the premises of the Lagos High Court, Igbosere seeking justice.

They are the former residents of Otodo Gbame community.

Men, women, and some children were there to challenge the decision of state authorities to forcefully reclaim their land.

The courtroom was packed full as the former residents were waiting anxiously for the ruling.

After hours of waiting, the judge Adeniyi Onigbanjo finally delivered judgement.

He ruled that the action of the Lagos State government constitutes a violation of the rights of residents under the 1999 constitution.

He faulted the inability of the government to provide alternative settlement for the residents before evicting them and orders a stop of further action until an alternative is provided.

Residents are however not fully satisfied with the ruling as they are hoping that they will get full justice soon.

On the last adjourn date, the court raised an issue of jurisdiction and asked parties to address it, but the respondent failed to file their written address on time, they only served the applicant the written address, so the court adjourned till June 21 for final judgement.
