Gov Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has declared Thursday as public holiday.

This is to enable electorate vote in the rerun gubernatorial election.

A statement by Sola Fasure, the media aide to Aregbesola in Osogbo said that the public holiday was to enable workers to participate in the rerun governorship election.

The exercise is scheduled to hold in seven polling units across four local government areas.

The affected units are in Ife north, Ife south, Orolu and Osogbo local government areas of the state. The total number of affected voters are 3,498.

Although 48 political parties would partake in the exercise, it is a two-way race between Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) which came third in the election has entered into an alliance with the APC.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations and Security Coordinator for the election Joshak Habila has warned that only eligible voters and officials would be allowed near polling units in the areas where rerun would take place.

Habila said: “We have an intelligence report that, there is a grand plan to turn the election gruesomely violent and deadly by arming thugs to unleash mayhem at polling centers.
