Osun Governorship: No More War In PDP As Ogunbiyi Hosts Adeleke
The first runner up in the gubernatorial primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Akin Ogunbiyi has reaffirmed his unchanging commitment to the party.
Playing host to the party's candidate in the September 22 election, Ademola Adeleke and loyalists of the party at his residence in Ile-Ogbo, in Ayedire local government area of the state on Friday, Ogunbiyi said he had nothing against Adeleke or his family.
Both Adeleke and Ogunbiyi have been exchanging words since the conduct of the party’s governorship primary in July.
Ogunbiyi had refused to openly concede victory to Adeleke.
However, on Wednesday, President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki finally settled the rift between the duo.
At the well-attended parley in Abuja, Saraki made the two men to sign an agreement to work together for the success of the party in the election.
Saraki after the meeting said with the coming together of the two men, the party was poised to win the election.
He said, “What just happened is the signing of an agreement between not just the two aspirants of the Osun governorship primaries of the PDP, but between all the PDP stakeholders in Osun State especially between two Osun PDP aspirants, who a lot of people think cannot come together."
Friday's meeting between Ogunbiyi and Adeleke was coincidental.
Ogunbiyi had invited all his supporters across the state to brief them on the outcomes of the Abuja reconciliation meeting, but midway into the meeting, Adeleke arrived with his entourage.
Ogunbiyi encouraged his supporters to vote for the PDP in the coming election noting that the march for a better Osun and Nigeria had begun.
He noted that Ademola’s victory in the election is PDP’s victory.
“I thank God and the leadership of the PDP. I am grateful to all women and youths in the party for your love, support and cooperation,” Ogunbiyi remarked.
In his response, Adeleke thanked Ogunbiyi for his magnanimity and resolve to bury the past in the interest of the party and Osun people.
He promised to do everything to keep the party united as they march to victory
Also, the state chairman of the party, Soji Adagunodo showered encomium on the leaders, especially Ogunbiyi for putting the interest of the party first.
