Osun Governorship Election: APC Aspirants Woo Voters With Cash
With the dust raised over the Cash-for-votes strategy used by political parties in last Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti yet to settle, aspirants vying for the All Progressives Congress's governorship ticket in Osun State have adopted the same strategy.
The aspirants in their bid to win the party’s ticket on Friday during the party’s primary wooed voters with cash.
The primary election, which took place in the 30 local governments including the Area Office, Modakeke was by direct primary.
Direct primary allows all party members to participate in the process to elect the party’s flag bearer.
Bounce News correspondent, who covered the election in some local governments observed that the aspirants through their agents wooed the voters with cash ranging from N1,000 to N3,000.
17 aspirants were initially screened to participate in the exercise but the number dropped to 14 following the withdrawal of three candidates on Friday.
Unlike the Ekiti election, which was by open secret ballot, the Osun APC primary was done using Option A4.
Party members lined up behind the poster of the aspirants to decide those they are supporting in the election.
According to sources close to some of the aspirants, each of the aspirants had budgeted huge sums to be showered on each voter during the primary.
From reports over 100, 000 members of the party voted during the primary. A winner is expected to be declared on Saturday after the votes cast are counted.
