Oshiomhole’s Mother Not Happy With High Cost Of Contesting Elections
Does the mother of the former Governor of Edo State want to run for a political position? Or is she telling us to read between the lines?
Aisatu Oshiomhole says she is more concerned about Nigeria’s development than she is in holding any political position.
‘If you spend so much to get to power, you will employ every means to recoup funds spent before thinking of development’ and this is a concern for the woman.
The mother of the former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday stressed the need for politicians to restructure the political scene and reduce the high cost of contesting elections.
Madam Oshiomhole gave the advice in Iyanmo when the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, and All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Estako West Local Government Area visited to sympathise with her over the death of her son in-law, Momodu Yakubu.
She believes it is one way to check corruption which has been identified as a major cause of under-development in Nigeria.
Mrs Oshiomhole says reducing cost of contesting for election will allow people with great ideas and integrity come into office.
Getting a governorship form for top political parties alone costs over 10 million Naira.
She also has some advice for the electorates.
“Shun the habit of requesting for money before voting for a candidate, as such act makes you lose the right to demand for accountability.”
