The 2019 Oscars was a night to remember.

The ceremony set the record for the most individual black winners, as a total of seven black people won in six categories, breaking a record set in 2017.

Black Panther won a total of three Oscars and became the first Marvel film, and superhero movie overall to be nominated for Best Picture.

Black Panther, which was nominated for a total of seven Oscars, won Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Original Score.

Ruth E. Carter, who won Best Costume Design for her work on Black Panther, made history by becoming the first black person to win the award.

The win also marked the first Oscar won by Marvel Studios.

Hannah Beachler has become the first black person to win Best Production Design also for her work on Black Panther.

Another big winner on the night was Spike Lee, who lost out to Best Directing for BlacKkKlansman, but did win Best Adapted Screenplay.

Also, Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for If Beale Street Could Talk and Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for Green Book.

Rami Malek, born to Egyptian immigrants, won Best Leading Actor for Bohemian Rhapsody.

Also recognized on the night and joining the 'record breaking squad' was Peter Ramsey,  the co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

He becomes the first black person to be nominated and win in the Best Animated Feature Category.
