Things are not the same. Social levels have changed for the Headies Awards.

From the date to the number of categories - a wind of change has swept through one of the most consistent music awards in Nigeria.

Since its inception in 2006, the Headies holds annually in March. After a review it was moved to the last quarter of every year.

Now it has returned back to status quo as the next Headies will take place on March 24, 2017, with music released between July 2016 and December 2017 being reviewed for each category.

To spice things up and increase competitiveness,  four new categories have been added: Headies Viewer’s Choice, Industry Brand Supporter, Best Performer, and Best Song Writer of the year.

This will increase the categories of awards to 24, with each winner receiving a 21 carat gold-plated plaque.

According to founder Ayo Animashaun, the changes will help ensure that every one who worked hard in 2017 is rewarded.

"Based on the studied schedule of releases, and the availability of talents, the committee has decided the best period to host our awards is now March.

"We want our nominees, artistes, entertainment industry practitioners and enthusiasts’ to have an amazing time and we want music fans to have even more fun.

"This is why we have taken every decision, from the new date, choice of venue, categories, and so on,” said Animashaun.
