Save for providence, and sheer luck, the political scenario in Ogun would have been thrown into chaos and mourning.

A federal lawmaker from the state narrowly escaped death by whiskers.

Oladipupo Adebutu, who is the House’s Committee Chairman on Rural Development, was shot in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State on Wednesday night during a campaign tour.

Adebutu who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly nursing an ambition to govern the state in 2019.

Adebutu, who represents Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo Federal Constituency, was said to be returning from a meeting of the Ogun West Senatorial District PDP in Aiyetoro, when he decided to make a stop-over in Ota to pay a solidarity visit to some party members arrested on Tuesday following a complaint by a rival faction of the party led by Segun Seriki.

Adebutu had barely left the area, when the suspected hoodlums opened fire on his convoy, causing commotion and sending many people scampering for safety.

At the end of the commotion, an unidentified supporter of the lawmaker, who was also part of his convoy, was hit by a stray bullet and died on the spot.

Adebutu is the son of the founder of "Baba Ijebu", Kensington Adebutu.
