ONDO'S HOT SEAT: Governor Akeredolu's Aides Suffer Setback
Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu seems to have got it wrong on all fronts of governance.
In less than two years into his tenure, the governor appears to have made more enemies of his people than any of his predecessors.
From the alleged wrong choice of cabinet members to the initiation of unfriendly policies, the state has incessantly brewed with serial disputes.
Recently, the state chapter of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria threatened the State Governor to either disband the committee set up by his Special Adviser on Health Matters, D.r Jibayo Adeyeye or face their wrath.
The committee was set up to midwife the implementation of the state’s contributory healthcare scheme with exclusion of members of the society.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Abiodun Aiyeku and Secretary, Solomon Adetunji, the Society described the committee without the inclusion of PSN members as “impunity of the highest order which portends failure for the scheme”.
“Sidelining of Pharmacists from the committee is a deliberate attempt by medical doctors in the state, implemented by the SA on Health Matters with malice and primordial interest which could be to the detriment of Akeredolu’s administration.” the statement read in part.
They called for the immediate resignation of the Special Adviser on Health, saying they have lost confidence in his competence.
Speaking to our correspondent in Akure, a member of the society, who simply introduced himself as pharmacist Ekudayo, said it has never happened anywhere in the past.
"There are certain things you don't play politics with. How can you set up such a committee without including a single member of PSN. Indirectly, he is telling us that we are not relevant in the scheme of things in the state."
Another member, who pleaded for anonymity, said the best thing for the SA right now is to resign voluntarily.
"Dr. Jibayo taught he could play the same type of politics he played in Lagos here in Ondo. He is joking.
"We know what he did when he was the chairman, health committee at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
"We just want to remind him that this is Ondo state and things must be done accordingly. If he is not ready to play the game by its rules, then we are fully ready to show him the way out."
The Special Adviser however declined to comment on the matter.
