Residents of Akure can now heave a sigh of relief and find some comfort in their homes.

After what seems to be a horrific Sunday resulting from a clash between followers of a masquerade and Hausa communities in Sabo area, peace has finally returned.

In a visit to the area, Bounce News correspondent saw the presence of the Nigerian security forces from the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services.

Bounce News had reported that residents were counting their losses following the Akure cash.

A resident of the area, Oloruntoba Ismail confirmed that he has returned to his home after he was forced to flee due to threats of reprisal.

"I returned home this morning and everywhere has been peaceful. The security agents are everywhere to ensure nobody ferments more trouble." He said.

Speaking on the development, the spokesman of the Army, Major Ojo Adenegan confirmed that normalcy has returned to the area.

“We are at the scene now, things have calmed down.

"I am here, the CP (Commissioner of Police) is here. We are doing our best to cool down the tempo,” Major Adenegan said.

Also, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Femi Joseph asked residents to go about their lawful activities.

“We have brought it to normal, we have restored normalcy.”

Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security matters, Jimoh Dojumo said the Commissioner of Police, state Director of DSS and other security chiefs have been meeting with the aggrieved parties to forestall a recurrence.
