One of the suspected armed robbers who escaped from SARS detention a few weeks ago in Akure, Bukola Adeoye is dead.

The culprit, popularly known as Agbara was gunned down in a duel with the police during a robbery operation in Ore, Ondo state on Wednesday.

While parading the culprit, the state police commissioner, Gbenga Adeyanju said he was arrested with seven other suspected criminals who were also involved in armed robbery case.

"Detectives from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Akure, received information that the escaped armed robbery suspects from SARS office, Akure, Bukola Adeoye and one Rotimi Adeyeye were taking cover in the house of one Loveth Ogbu.

"A team of detectives swooped in on the said Loveth Ogbu and arrested her.

"On their interrogation, she confessed that the escaped armed robbery suspects were in Ore.

"Based on the confession, detectives mobilized to Christ Foundation Primary School in Ore and on sighting them, the robbers opened fire and engaged them in a gun duel.

"One of the armed robbery suspects, Bukola Adeoye who has been on our wanted list, sustained gunshot injury on his right leg while others were arrested," he said. 

Adeyanju later disclosed that the culprit was immediately rushed down to the General Hospital in Ore where he died few hours after been admitted.

Bounce News had reported that the suspect and his gang members allegedly escaped with handcuffs from the Anti Robbery Squad detention in Akure.

Police officers in charge of the case were said to have remained in detention over their escape.
