Ondo PDP, APC Exchange Verbal Assaults As Party Chieftains Remain In Jail
Since the incarceration of the Ondo State PDP chairman, Clement Faboyede and his counterpart in the party, Tokunbo Modupe by the EFCC, the state party loyalists and that of APC have been engaged in a war of words.
Faboyede and Modupe were arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on a three-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N500 million.
Reacting to the development, the state PDP publicity secretary, Ayo Fadaka believes the ruling party was merely witch-hunting and trying to decimate the opposition party in the state.
"Faboo is the party chairman while Tokunbo is the DG, Jonathan campaign organization in the state. Both are signatories to the party's account. So who else did they expect to sign the cheque on behalf of the party?
"The money wasn't diverted to their own account but was rather used for the purpose it was disbursed. So what is the fuss about?
"We know how about 4 billion naira was moved into this state in 2016 to prosecute the governorship election. We raised the alarm but nothing happened. Till now, nobody has said anything on it. If they are telling us that PDP spent money to do election, what did APC spend, papers or pebbles?''
Another PDP member, Olumide Ogunmiloye said: "Last month, Chief Dan Orbih, Edo State PDP Chairman and the PDP flagbearer in the last Edo Guber Poll, Pastor Ize-Iyamu were arraigned for laundering N700M.
"Barely two weeks to the much anticipated Ekiti State Governorship Election, Engr. Clement Faboyede who is the Ondo State PDP Chairman and a top Chieftain of the PDP in Ondo State were arraigned for laundering N500M.
"Can't you see a handwriting on the wall? APC as a party is only out to clip the wings of the opposition."
In his response, Alex Kalejaye, the publicity secretary of Ondo APC said the PDP should focus on how to defend its principal officers.
"If PDP members know what is good for them, they should encourage their detained party chairman, Clement Faboyede, to prove his innocence before a competent court of law, instead of resorting to blackmail.
