Ondo Gov’s Wife Accused Of Choosing ‘Aso Ebi’ Over Community Development
The Forum For Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO) may have lost significance in local council areas.
Some members are unhappy with the routine activities of the forum and seem to be retracing their steps.
The forum is an association of wives of Ondo State government officials with the sole aim of empowering the women.
An initiative of wife of the governor, Betty Akeredolu, the forum's activities have recently become more of a jamboree than the real essence which it was birthed in 2017.
Staging the monthly programme at Ese-Odo LG area of the state, many of the key members of the forum obviously preferred to get themselves engaged with something else rather than being in attendance.
Of 18 wives of commissioners in the state, only five were in attendance, a development which the Governor's wife could not account for its reasons.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a member of the forum said FOWOSO has lost its significance.
"The whole essence of setting up the association was to empower our women and the youth across the state. Every month, we will hold the programme from one local government to another and that is how we have been doing it.
"But recently, some of us realized that all we do monthly is to wear 'aso ebi' and be dancing and partying without empowering anybody.
"Of course, I don't see anything wrong in that but for somebody like me, I have something more important than dancing around the community.
"Before my husband was appointed, I have my business that usually takes away my time. So, being part of the exercise before now is not really convenient for me. I know how much I loose whenever i join the train.
"So when am chanced, I will definitely contribute my quota because am still part of the family as long as my husband remains in office." She concluded.
