ONDO DRAMA! Two Weeks After, Akeredolu's Borehole ‘Packs-Up’
Until the recent provision of borehole by the state government, an open well had remained the regular source of water in Atosin, Idanre local government area of Ondo.
The joy of Atosin residents knew no bounds when the promise of providing portable water was fulfilled by the state government.
But in less than a month, this basic facility that should have registered the presence of government in minds and memory of the people has become a source of communal embarrassment.
The people seem to have been back to the very base where they crawled out from as water seized to drip out from the taps.
"When this governor came on a thank you visit in our area, we narrated our ordeal to him and pleaded to him on the need for portable water.
"Of course, he granted us after about one and a half years into his administration. But as you can see now, the borehole only supplied water for two weeks." Said Victor Babatunde, a resident of Atosin.
Also lamenting the development was a market woman, Mrs. Ebun Adepitan who claimed she was most benefited from the gesture when it was working perfectly.
"It was a big relief for me and my children the moment the borehole was installed because of its easy accessibility to my house.
"Until then, my children usually go several miles to get drinking water and it got worse in the dry season because most well around us would have dried up.
"Unfortunately, we are forced back to the same situation now."
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a state government official from the local government blamed the incident on the contractor for doing a shoddy job.
He however promised that the matter will be addressed shortly.
