Ondo APC Congress: Commissioner, Rep Member Attacked
As usual, the smoke of fracas has continued to billow from the APC camp in Ondo State.
While the devastating dust of the last two congresses conducted by the party is yet to settle, the party is again on the path of controversy.
On Saturday, at least 50 people sustained various degrees of injuries at the party state Congress in Akure.
This comes after political thugs allegedly invaded the venue and attacked everyone present.
The congress, which was organised by the factional members of the party, held at the BTO hall, Ilesha road, Akure.
The Assembly started peacefully and at the appropriate time until thugs disrupted proceedings.
Leaders of the party including the member representing Ifedore/Idanre federal constituency, Hon. Bamidele Baderinwa and the Osun State Commissioner for Regional Integration, Hon. Bola Ilori, were beaten to pulp.
Several journalists from various media organisations who were contacted to cover the event were said to have been severely beaten.
Speaking on the incident, one of the factional members, Olajide Abiodun said it was the handwork of the state governor and his men.
"This people said they are carrying out an instruction given to them by NURTW chairman in the state, Jacob Adebo. So who are the people controlling the NURTW, is it not the state government?
"We have already seen the handwriting on the wall. But they should know that those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
Another member, Jerome Akinsuyi who condemned the attack said their faction is legitimate.
"Our chairman, Isaac Kekemeke is the only APC chairman that is recognised in Ondo State. He is the only one that has the right to conduct a congress in the state. The earlier the governor knows this, the better for him."
One of the journalist, Tunde Adedayo from Trace Magazine who was attacked by the thugs said they were trapped in the venue.
"They blocked all access route through which we could escape before they carried out the attack.
"Hon. Bola Ilori narrowly escaped from the venue after receiving two smashes of machete but some of us were not lucky to find our way on time.
"They said they were carrying out instructions from leaders of NURTW state chairman, but it was obvious they were sent by the APC faction loyal to the governor and the chairman." He said.
The state NURTW chairman, Jacob Adebo could not be reached for comment.
Also, the state chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin said he was not aware of any attack saying the congress has been peaceful so far.
