The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in last September's Osun election has dumped his party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Iyiola Omisore was sighted in company with Osun Gov. Gboyega Oyetola and APC leaders visiting the palace of Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ovunwusi.

Governor Oyetola is on a thank you visit to Ife zone for their support during the election which he was declared the winner.

In the run-off that nudged Oyetola ahead of his PDP rival Gboyega Adeleke, Omisore pitched his camp with the APC, and urged his followers to ensure Oyetola was elected.

The SDP was angry with the senator for his decision. He was also suspended for a year by Afenifere, a pan Yoruba group he belongs to, which felt betrayed by the action.

The APC team led by Governor Oyetola had earlier visited Omisore in his Moore area of Ife from where they moved to the palace of Ooni in a motorcade.

Oyetola, while speaking at the Ooni's place said the relationship between him and Omisore dates back many years.

In his response, Omisore said: “There is no rumour again as to where we are headed politically. You have all seen where we are going now."

Omisore's response drew a loud ovation from supporters of the SDP and APC who were gathered at the palace.
