Senator Iyiola Omisore has dropped his ambition to contest the 2018 governorship election in Osun State.

Omisore's decision is the fall out of intense negotiation with the Peoples Democratic Party leaders in the state and beyond.

Omisore was the party’s flag bearer in the last governorship election in the state in 2014.

He, however, failed to stop the re-election bid of outgoing governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Omisore had indicated interest to re-contest and had vowed not to step down for anyone.

But fresh revelations have it that PDP chieftains within and outside the state have made the former senator see reason that pursuing his ambition may not be in the interest of the party in Osun State.

Those concerned are said to have engaged the former deputy governor of Osun State in serious negotiation to determine better ways to protect his political interests.

“The result is an agreement in principle that he would drop his gubernatorial ambition and support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate” a source said.
