While her successes recorded on the tracks are well documented, there are some interesting things you should know about this national and international hero.

1. She tried football
Just like many other successful Nigerian athletes, she originally played football in her teenage years before delving into Track and Field in 2004.
That same year she competed at the Nigerian School Championships. She signed up for Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump winning a medal in each.
2. She is a Commonwealth Games Legend
Though the Commonwealth Games dates to back 1930, only the FOUR women ever in history have been able to win the Sprint DOUBLE (100m and 200m) titles at the Games. It is gladdening to know that Okagbare is one of this quartet.
3. She is Married to a former member of the Super Eagles
Though Okagbare was previously linked with a fellow athlete, Samson Idiata, who switched from High Jump to Long Jump, she settled with a former Super Eagles player Igho Otegheri whose career was short-lived owing to injury.
4. A Graduate from Texas University El Paso
Okagbare is a queen. She has beauty and brains. She is a graduate of the famous Texas University, El Paso where she excelled in class and on the tracks.
Hall of Fame
To highlight her legendary status at the Texas University, Okagbare is to be inducted into her Alma Matta’s Hall of Fame later this month.
