Okada Registration: Riders In Ondo Given Jan 19 Deadline Or Risk Impoundment
Motorcycle and tricycle operators in Ondo state have till Friday, January 19 to register or get off the roads.
This is a new order from the Ondo state government.
The Senior Special Adviser to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on special duties and strategies, Doyin Odebowale stated this while addressing motorcycles and tricycle operators in Akure, the state capital.
He said the step became necessary to check the increasing criminal activities such as rape, kidnapping, cultism among others, by some faceless hoodlums among the operators
Odebowale maintained that the registration would assist security operatives to identify the perpetrators thereby addressing criminal activities.
He advised the operators to give authentic biodata, and hinted that the state government would start distributing tickets to stop sharp practices of the operators’ union leaders.
Although, the riders admit that the new system is a good one for everyone, they are appealing for an extension of the registration exercise.
One Tayo Akinbgbemila said: "Yes, we love the project, but government should give us time because it's not easy my brother."
Of course, there would still be some of them who would not see anything good in the order.
A tricycle owner who preferred not to be named, believes the step is odd.
"My brother, they talk of rape, but is that the solution? When okada and marwa (tricycle) were not here, didn’t we have rape?
“Let them go and face herdsmen and put economy right, that's the reason we voted them."
