Oby Ezekwesili Replies ANCP - "I Did Not Steal Any Money"
The love between Obiageli Ezekwesili and her estranged political part, the Allied Congress of Nigeria (ANCP) is fading like candle light in the wind.
Few hours ago, she was the presidential candidate of the party, but now the party has disowned her.
They are sad that she left them after they have come a long way in the race to occupy Aso Rock after February 16.
She threw-in the towel in the early hours of January 24 and she is in the news for it, but her party came out with a statement, disowning her and hipping allegations on her.
Her spokesman, Ozioma Ubabukoh, however, responded to the party, insisting that the ANCP was just venting anger.
First, the party accused her of using their platform to push a dream of becoming the finance minister of Nigeria.
Addressing reporters after she stepped down from the race, the national chairman of the party and Dr. Ezekwesili’s running mate, Gani Galadima, said “she does not deem it fit to inform the party whose mandate she is holding.
“If you observe, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili is the only presidential candidate who was so militant in her campaign without any tangible thing on ground to indicate any seriousness in the prosecution of her campaign.
“No campaign secretariat, billboard or great commitment on ground to indicate any seriousness.
“It is on this ground that the ACPN is withdrawing support for her presidential aspiration and endorsing the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari to take Nigeria to the next level".
The party further asked her to return to the party all the donations “from all over the world” because the party would have to account to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He also accused Dr. Ezekwesili of only paying 100,000 Naira for the party’s expression of interest form that was put at 10.5 million Naira.
“We may take her to court. She was just using us to play,” he added.
Oby Side Of The Story
However, Mr Ubabukoh dismissed the claims that Dr. Ezekwesili played with the party, insisting that there was no ulterior motive.
"Galadima’s belief was that, if they had a candidate like Dr. Ezekwesili they could win the election, having finished fourth in the presidential election of 2015.

“People saw the need for a coalition because that is the way that they could defeat other people vying and after three days of series of meetings, she finally decided to step down.
“Now, Mr Galadima was not happy because he never wanted a coalition, but Dr. Ezekwesili said she was the candidate and had realised that a coalition was the only way they could defeat the Atiku-Buhari factor.
“That is all.
“All those allegations are something that he had come up with and none of the allegations is true.
“If you know the woman in question, you will know she has integrity,” he said.
He pointed out that the party was just venting anger over he decision to form a coalition.
Galadima had claimed that Iyinoluwa Aboyeji hinted him of Dr. Ezekwesili’s plan to be the Finance Minister, but Mr Ubabukoh explained that Mr Aboyeji, was the fund raiser for the party and could not have gone that length if he knew that 'Mama Naija' had her eyes on the minister’s position.
“He has been the one in charge of fund raising and not even the party,” he added.
Dr. Ezekwesili had said that “every money donated to the campaign and funds spent will be accounted for in the coming days".
