An SS 2 student, Adijat Azeez stunned the crowd at the ongoing National Sports Festival when she beat all her counterparts to win the gold medal in -70kg women category of the Judo event at the ongoing National Sports Festival.

The 16-year old Adijat who competed for Ondo State defeated Edo's Blessing Obaraje to emerge as the new champion.

Arguably one of the youngest gold medalists at the Abuja Games, Adijat said she was excited to strike gold in her maiden appearance at the Sports festival.

The 19th National Sports Festival which started last Thursday will run through to December 16th.

Also, a relatively unknown Anambra volleyball team defeated a star-studded Rivers state side at the outdoor court of the Package B stadium in the Volleyball opener on Sunday.

In the female category, Delta state came from behind to beat Plateau state 3-2 (25-27), (25-21, 25-17, 25-21).

Ondo state will face Plateau state on Monday.
