A return ticket from her base in Germany and allowances reportedly in the tune of millions have all gone down the drain as Funke Oshonaike has been knocked out of the Table Tennis Singles' event at the ongoing National Sports Festival has been dashed.

The six-time Olympian was dumped out of the Women's Singles event on Monday by Team Lagos’ Nimota Aregbesola who battled to a 4-3 win.

The defeat is coming on the heels of Sunday's knock out in the Mixed Doubles' exit.

Before Monday’s exit, Oshonaike had stated that she was keen to win the Gold medal for Akwa Ibom who she admitted invested a lot in her.

However, having failed in her quest; Oshonaike said: The girl Funke you called Mercenary just lost to a good young player from lagos.

I was lucky to have won a match before then against Fatima a good player from rivers state . We played 4:3. I’m very sad that I lost 3:4 ,but I’m happy that we have good players that can take over when I finally throw in the towel .

But they can not do it alone without the help of good coaches and enough fund. Once again thanks to akwa ibom for this great opportunity . I’m so sorry for disappointing my adopted state"

It is yet to be seen if Oshonaike will be playing in Doubles' and Team event.
