Northern leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have insisted that the zoning arrangements agreed upon in the sharing of offices at the May 21, 2016 National Convention of party remain sacrosanct.

The leaders, who met in Abuja on Tuesday, insisted that nothing will change the zoning of the presidential ticket to the north, while the chairmanship seat zoned to the South, remains.

The leaders met to harmonise the position of the zone ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for December 9.

The northern leaders came down hard on Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti over his declaration for the presidency in violation of the party’s zoning arrangement.

Addressing the leaders, Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi said the zoning formal approved by the PDP National Convention in Port Harcourt last year, remains valid.

"The party for the avoidance of doubt, the zoning approved for the Port Harcourt convention remains valid."

“On presidency it is clear. There is no confusion. The presidential ticket is zoned to the North and the National Chairmanship to the South,” Makarfi assured.

Similarly, the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Walid Jibril said the North stands with the decision of the party leadership to zone the presidential ticket to their zone.

He dismissed party members from the South aspiring for the PDP presidential ticket as people "making useless noise".
