The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has ordered  all governorship aspirants in the state not to contest the 2019 election against the incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

He said there is no vacancy in that office as  Ambode and his deputy, Oluranti Adebule, will govern Lagos state for the next 6 years.

The Oba said Ambode’s performance in less than 2 years is enough to merit a second term.

He stated that anyone planning to contest against the governor will be wasting his time.

He said this while speaking at the 21st convocation ceremony of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.

He said; “Few days ago, one of the aspirants greeted me. After greeting, he alleged that I halted his ambition. No one should come out in 2019 and declare his ambition.

“The only way to avoid not wasting their money is to support Ambode and his deputy to rule Lagos for the next six years.

"That was why about nine months to the 2015 governorship election, I said Ambode would be the next governor whether they vote or not".

Recalled that in the run-up to the 2015 governorship election, the Oba allegedly stated that Igbos in the state would die if they failed to vote Ambode.
