NO WAY! Residents Protest Release Of Prophetess’ 'Rapist' Son
The cry for justice is becoming deafening by the day as members of the public are forging a common ground against crime.
It was on this premise that residents of Oda road, Akure, the Ondo state capital; brazenly stood against the release of Friday Akinlaja.
He allegedly raped a 9-year old girl in the neighborhood.
Akinlaja, a 26-year old son of a prophetess, allegedly deceived the minor with bread and akara when her mother was away from home, defiled and later offered her 110 naira after noticing she was bleeding profusely.
A neighbor, Mrs. Tomisin Olaiya, who reported the matter to the Ondo state police command which culminated in his arrest, disclosed that parents of the suspect made moves to get him out on bail.
"If the neighbors had not been proactive, the innocent child would have been treated like other rape victims in the society.
"They have perfected all processes to get him out of police station because they didn't want the matter to soil their names not minding what becomes the fate of the poor girl.
"If not for an insider in the police station who happened to be a well known person to me that called; the matter would have just disappeared like that.
"All the neighbors here have decided to follow the matter to a logical end. We have gotten a lawyer who is handling it pro bono and it is already in court."
It was gathered that the suspect’s mother was a Prophetess in a Pentecostal church in Akure which accounted for reasons why they moved to settle the matter out of court.
The suspect, who blamed the devil for his action, was dragged to the magistrate court on a one-count charge of rape and defilement of a minor.
