NO WAY! Assembly Rejects Defection Of 2 Lawmakers
The wish of two members of Ogun State House of Assembly to defect has been declined by the Assembly.
The Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, had read separate letters informing the House at the plenary on Tuesday that Biyi Adeleye (Remo North constituency) and Harrison Adeyemi (Ogun Waterside constituency) had defected from the All Progressive Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.
It was gathered that in the letter of defection submitted by Adeleye, he had cited division and crisis in the APC as their primary reason for jumping ship.
He had added that the new political party shared the same philosophy with him and his constituents.
However, the majority leader, Yinka Mafe, who spoke after the Speaker had read the letters to the House, argued that the party was not polarised either at the state or national level.
He then urged the Speaker to discountenance the reasons advanced by the lawmaker that the APC was polarised into two factions.
Mafe said, “APC has one party chairman in the person of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
“It will be unfortunate if we allow it to go down that APC has been divided whereas the party has not been divided.
“I want you to tell him to prove to this House that the APC is divided. If he cannot prove it, the Speaker should use his office to do the needful.”
The Speaker, however, noted that there was no crisis or division in the APC both at the state and national level.
He said, “On this note, the matter will be set aside until the lawmakers are able to prove to the House that there is a crisis in the party."
