NNPC Wants Investors To Build Refinery In Akwa Ibom
The industrialization plan of the Akwa Ibom government is getting a boost.
The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC Dr. Maikanti Baru, on Wednesday said he has engaged investors to establish a refinery in the State.
According to him, Akwa Ibom State is well-positioned geographically to have a refinery.
“The investors have been coming to us and I have seen one that is quite promising. It is in this light that I encouraged these investors to come and see the state government and discuss,” Baru was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the NNPC spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu.
The GMD explained that although the preferred location of the investors was not Akwa Ibom State, he had convinced them to consider establishing the refinery there to leverage on the state’s deep coastline.
Baru, who is in the middle of a storm with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, called on industry players to brace for change in the sector.
